MYSTERIES and ADVENTURES

VERDI Overture to La forza del destino
DAVID DEL TREDICI Dracula
SCHUBERT Unfinished Symphony

Admission: $17 general, $12 senior, $10 student
FREE with PSU ID

Please join us for our first orchestra concert in the newly renovated Lincoln Recital Hall. The program features familiar masterpieces by Schubert and Verdi, as well as New York composer David Del Tredici’s gothic tale, “Dracula,” featuring soprano Jennifer Davies. For this piece, violist/composer Matthew Steele will be playing the theramin on his iphone. (Yes, there is an app for it. The inventor is our good friend Christopher Penrose.)

You might know this already: theramin is the instrument that made all those spooky sounds in the old Hollywood movies. Here’s the inventor, Leon Theramin:

We look forward to seeing you at the concert!

I haven’t been to a PSU orchestra concert in a LONG time, and I have to say, that was a great concert. The Verdi in particular was amazing. Bravo! Nice to see a young audience for classical music in Portland! I felt like the oldest person there, and usually like I’m the youngest.
