First week of class coming up

Welcome and welcome back. I hope you were all practicing hard this summer! String placement auditions for all new and returning students will take place the first week of class. There will be a sign up sheet on my office door Wednesday (Sept 24), and auditions will take place in LH 205 Tue and Wed from 11am to 2pm. Please bring your current solo repertoire. I would also like to hear scales, and possibly some sight reading. First rehearsal is Thursday, Oct 2. Winds and brass will sign up for auditions with Ed Higgins, and there will be information posted about those on his door. I have no idea what repertoire we will be doing, so if you have any suggestions or requests, please email me or post your ideas in the comments below. I look forward to working with you this year! New Music Ensemble will rehearse Wednesday mornings again this year, either from 9-10:30 or 10-11:30, depending on when people have classes scheduled. The instrumentation is as usual – string quartet, wind quartet, horn, trumpet, trombone, percussion, piano. NME is for Chamber Music Credit and requires my approval, so please contact me if you are interested. (First NME rehearsal is Oct 3.) KS

  1. Tricia says:

I kind of want to try and play Dvorak’s Symphonic Variations Op. 78, Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, or Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture/Fingal’s Cave.

  2. Matt G. says:

Mussorgskys Night on bald Mountain. Sibelius’ Finlandia. Dukas’ sorcerers apprentice. Gershwin-American in Paris. And just because….Tubby The Tuba. 🙂
